How to participate?

  • Step 1: Follow our Instagram page, @hornofafricaedit.

  • Step 2: Download the footage package from here.

  • Step 3: Edit a 30-second commercial that creatively showcases your unique style.

  • Step 4: Submit your final edited video through a youtube or vimeo link via email at post@hornofafricaedit.com by the deadline. 

  • Step 5: Post your submission to your Instagram profile using the hashtag #HornOfAfricaEditChallenge and tag @hornofafricaedit.

Competition Timeline

  • Launch Date: November 17th, 2024

  • Submission Deadline: December 8th, 2024, 11:59PM

  • Winner Announcement: December 15th, 2024

Judging Criteria

  • Creativity: Originality in editing style and storytelling.

  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in cuts, transitions, and overall pacing.

  • Cohesion: How well the final piece fits as a commercial.

  • Sound Design: Effective use of audio to enhance the video.

Eligibility

  • Eligibility: Open to all Ethiopian filmmakers ages 14 and above.

  • Submission Guidelines: Only original edits created using the provided footage will be considered.

  • Copyright: Participants retain rights to their edits but grant Horn of Africa Edit permission to showcase their work.

  • What format should I submit my video in?

    • Answer: MP4, 1080p.

  • Can I add my own music?

    • Answer: Yes, as long as it is royalty-free or original.

  • Is color grading allowed?

    • Answer: Yes, you are encouraged to color grade and enhance the footage.
